Eli Klein is a Canadian author whose work grows out of a life shaped by art, activism, recovery, and community. Over the past 45 years, he has lived many roles, including poet, parent, performer, organizer,protestor, artist, and cultural producer, while also navigating experiences that range from addiction and survival to mentorship and leadership. His background spans the industries of music, art , film, festivals, and radio, where he has worked as a DJ, singer, booking agent, video producer and director and curator. As a traumatic brain injury survivor and peer support facilitator, Eli brings lived experience into his advocacy with youth and queer communities. His writing reflects a lifelong engagement with creativity, resistance, and transformation, grounded in real lives and real stakes.

Behind the Words

*A glimpse inside my creative process*

Writing, for me, is a quiet and deliberate ritual. It begins with observation — listening closely, noticing details others overlook, and allowing moments to linger before they take shape on the page. I write slowly, often late at night, when distractions fade and thoughts sharpen.

Ideas usually arrive fragmented: a line overheard, an image, a question that won’t let go. I collect them in worn notebooks, returning to them until they reveal a deeper truth. Only then does the real work begin — shaping emotion into language, and language into story.
